What we collect, what we do with it, and how to get rid of it. This app records precise location, so that section comes first.

Who we are
Navi Wake is a water-navigation service operated by Bright Arc Software ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who we send it to, and how you get rid of it.
It covers the Navi Wake website and app. Questions or requests: privacy@naviwake.com.
Location data — the short version
We collect precise GPS location. It is the core of a navigation app — without it we cannot show you where your boat is. You can use the charts without granting location; you simply won't get a position, live speed, or track recording.
Precise location is used for exactly these purposes:
- Showing your position
- Drawing your boat on the chart and driving the 3D helm view. This happens on your device and is not sent to us.
- Recording a run
- Only when you press record. The full GPS track is saved to your account so you can replay or export it, and you can delete any run.
- Float plan check-ins
- While a float plan is active, your latest position is stored so the people you shared the plan with can see you are moving and due back.
- Sharing with friends
- Only while you turn sharing on. Your position is served to boaters you have accepted as friends, and to nobody else.
- Calling for assistance
- When you report a breakdown, your coordinates are attached so other boaters on that lake can reach you. This is public to that lake.
- Placing a hazard pin
- The coordinates you drop are published to every boater on that lake.
We do not sell location data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not build a profile of where you go.
Everything we collect
- Account
- Your name, email address and password. Passwords are stored only as a salted hash — we never see the original.
- Session records
- A session token plus the IP address and browser user-agent of the device you signed in from, so you can be kept signed in and so we can end a session.
- Precise location
- As described above: recorded tracks, float-plan pings, live position while sharing, assist-request coordinates, hazard-pin coordinates.
- Your content
- Saved trips and their waypoints, float plan details (vessel name, party size, times, notes), reviews you write, hazard pins you place, and your boat profile (draft and safety buffer).
- Friend connections
- Who you are connected to, and the display names shown on each side of that connection.
- Push notifications
- If you opt in, a device endpoint and encryption keys so we can alert you to a breakdown nearby. Removing the subscription stops this.
- Payment records
- If you subscribe: your Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, plan, status and renewal date. We never receive or store your card number.
- Usage analytics
- We use Vercel Analytics on the production site. It records page views and general traffic patterns. It is privacy-focused and does not use cookies to track you across other websites.
What is visible to other people
Some things you create are public on purpose. Please read this section before posting.
- Hazard pins
- Visible to everyone viewing that lake, including people without an account. One boater's submerged-log report is what protects the next boater — that only works if it is public.
- Reviews
- Your review text, rating and your display name are shown publicly next to that marina, ramp or restaurant.
- Assist requests
- Your coordinates, your note and your boat description go out to every boater on that lake while the request is open.
- Float plan links
- Anyone holding the link can see that plan and your last position, without signing in. That is what lets you send it to someone ashore. Treat the link as the key — only send it to people you trust.
- Live position
- Shown only to friends you have accepted, and only while you have sharing switched on.
Your rights and deleting your account
You can delete your account and its data yourself, at any time, from your account page. No email, no waiting for us.
Deleting your account permanently removes:
- your profile, sign-in credentials and all active sessions;
- every recorded run and its full GPS track;
- your saved trips, float plans and boat profile;
- your live position and friend connections;
- your hazard pins, reviews, assist requests and push devices;
- your subscription record.
Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. We keep only what the law requires us to — for example, payment and tax records held by Stripe.
Depending on where you live you may also have the right to access, correct, or export your data, and to object to processing. Write to privacy@naviwake.com and we will respond within the time your law allows.
How long we keep things
Account data and your saved content are kept until you delete them or close your account. Beyond that:
- Hazard reports
- Expire automatically. Temporary hazards stop being shown after their expiry; permanent features such as a fuel dock stay.
- Live position
- A single current row per person, overwritten as you move. Stale positions are treated as offline.
- Sessions
- Expire on their own, or when you sign out.
Children
Navi Wake is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact privacy@naviwake.com and we will delete it.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes to how we handle location will be announced in the app.
